What is Visceral Manipulation?

IMG_0870“VISCERA” Relates to the internal organs of the body such as the liv-er, kidney and intestines. Visceral Manipulation, (VM) is a gentle manual therapy that aids your Body’s ability to release restrictions and unhealthy compensations that cause pain and dysfunction. VM does not focus solely on the site of pain or dysfunction, but evaluates the entire body to find the source of the problem. The VM therapist feels for altered or decreased motion within the viscera, as well as restrictive patterns throughout the body and then applies VM techniques .

Optimum health relies upon the harmonious motion relationship among structures of the body.

How Do Organs Contribute To Pain And Dysfunction?

Your body is made up of many interrelated components. Your organs are in perpetual motion. For example when you breath, wake or stretch, your organs move in your chest and abdomen. When you take a breath your kidneys move one inch and with deep inhalation , they move 4 inches. In a day they move over 1/2 mile. That is around 19,000 miles in a lifetime. !!

This movement of organs is transmitted through fascia to other structures of the body. Optimum health relies on fluid motion of all the organs as they function..

Organs lose mobility due to physical trauma, surgery, posture, pregnancy, infections, etc. that can cause inflammation, which causes loss of motion of the tis-sues. When this happens the body has to compensate . We are still going to try to do our normal activities, but over years these new Patterns create pressures, and pulls on other areas and finally there are no compensations available and suddenly a simple motion creates pain, or an injury. For example: a seat belt injury from a car accident can effect the liver and can show up as a right shoulder or right knee issue later on.

Jean-Pierre Barral continues to develop Visceral Manipulation evaluation and treatment techniques. He has expanded the visceral connection to pain and dysfunction to work with the joints, vascular system and the nervous system.

Wendy has a background and extensive training in all of these curriculum.

Goals of Visceral Manipulation:

The purpose of Visceral Manipulation is to recreate harmonic, and increase proprioceptive communication in the body to enhance its internal mechanism for better health. “
